Trailer Tuesday: Logan’s Run

This week, Logan J. Fowler flies solo on the Trailer Tuesday column with a look at the ’80s comedy Take Me Home Tonight and the new Johnny Depp animated feature Rango.

Take Me Home Tonight
Release Date: March 4
Starring: Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Michelle Trachtenberg
Director: Michael Dowse

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent.

When I first watched the trailer for Take Me Home Tonight, I chuckled a few times, but the trailer didn’t really scream “This is a must see!” Also, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before; Matt (Topher Grace) is an uptight dude who is asked by a friend to live a little on a big party night. Of course there’s a girl, and Matt decides to live it up after all. That’s pretty much the core plot. Anyway, I got nothing against Topher Grace (except for Spider-Man 3), but he really hasn’t a carved out a place as a leading box office guy, which means the movie won’t open that big. However, I allow it some points for the 1980s setting/soundtrack, because I am a sucker for the music of the decade. Still, I’ll Netflix this one. Sorry, Eddie Money.

Rango
Release Date: March 4
Starring : (The Voices of) Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Timothy Olymphant, Abagail Breslin
Director: Gore Verbinski

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided.

The trailer for Rango is very interesting. There is very little to go on, which may work in the film’s favor. Most trailers reveal way too much. Also, the film seems very different, which is a great factor, due to Hollywood’s reuse and recycle methods these days. What the trailer does provide is just Rango (Johnny Depp) as a stranger in a new town. It has definitely sparked an interest, and I’m going to keep an eye on it. With that said, it’s been a solid run for animated films lately. Let’s hope Rango keeps the boat afloat.
