Top 10 Dr. Seuss Books

in honor of the release of The Lorax in theaters and it being Dr. Seuss Day, logan j. fowler looks at his top 10 Seuss books …

Theodore Seuss Geisel
A hero of mine
Wrote lots of books
containing lots of rhymes
His birthday is March 2
So I thought just for fun
I’d list my favorite books,
number 10 to one!

10. Hop On Pop

Hop On Pop is a book with simple phrases, but the book itself just simply amazes. Containing funny pictures and easy enough for a beginner to learn, this Seuss book is a delight at every page turn!

9. And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street

Seuss’ first book tells about a boy on a road, who imagines crazy animals pulling wondrous elements on a cart by the load. The picture keeps changing in the boy’s head, which is neat, and the reader can’t wait to see what he sees on the street.

8. How The Grinch Stole Christmas

A true holiday classic, this is tale of a green man who does what he can to take Christmas by hand. Stealing everything in sight, the Grinch is proud of his newfound freight. But will a surprising element change his mind before it’s too late?

7. Horton Hears A Who

An elephant tries to protect a world on a small clover, even though he is insulted over and over. The moral is great here, for ages of all — “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

6. Oh, The Places You’ll Go

Considered to be the ultimate graduation gift, this book will definitely will give your spirits a lift. Not sugar coating the unknown disasters that could await you too, this book is perfect for those about to embark on something new.

5. Green Eggs And Ham

A classic, so simple, a Dr. Seuss treat, about an offering of some food to eat. “Won’t try ‘em,” the main character says with his foot put down, but sooner or later, he comes around…

4. The Cat In The Hat

A Dr. Seuss staple, a book that is timeless, a tale about a cat who makes quite a big mess! Breaking all sorts of rules, the cat does not mean to cause a fuss, but with a clean up machine, he won’t leave behind any dust!

3. Hooray For Diffendoofer Day!

A puzzle piece of a book, with Seuss’ rhymes all intact, but the art is not all his, as a matter of fact. One of the last great works Seuss had a hand in before he died, this book tells the tale of having school pride. As a teacher, I love this book and find it quite cool, because it deals with overcoming the stress of testing at school.

2. The Butter Battle Book

A cliffhanger abruptly ends this tale, leaving you wanting more, Seuss’ story about weapons is a correlation to the cold war. A dark story, without a doubt, only lightened by the flowing script, the doctor packs the story with illustrations as he saw fit.

1. The Lorax

My favorite book, one I hold dear to me, is all about the cutting down of Truffula Trees. The main character warns a man who does not see the Earth for all that is has, and overruns the beautiful land with his factory polluting the air with smoggy gas. It’s an environmental tale, with beautiful art, even beautiful when the bad guy, the Once-Ler, tears the forest apart.
