Interview: The Bad News

jeanne crump interviews the band on the eve of their debut show at the saint in asbury park, nj…

If you’re nostalgic for the 80’s, constantly wondering where all the thrashing rockstars of the hair era went, look no further than New Jersey’s own The Bad News, a shockingly authentic reincarnation of rock bands who flourished during that electric, balls-to-the-wall decade.

With influences such as Twisted Sister, Steel Panther and Pantera, The Bad News are creating a mega-hitting punch of heavy rock & roll. Belting out lyrics such as “You said shut your mouth, and started heading south…I don’t need to know your name…You said I’ll never be the same” off their track “Sleeping With the Enemy,” it’s apparent they’ve got all the right ingredients for metal-fueled fame.

The Bad News’ first-ever live performance is this Saturday, May 5th at The Saint in Asbury Park. So break out your old (or new) leopard-printed spandex, Guns N’ Roses t-shirt and that bottle of cheap whiskey, ’cause this Cinco de Mayo party will be celebrating everything that is rock.

I had a chance to talk to the group about their debut and plans for the future, which you can check out below. Don’t forget to give them a listen on Facebook.

Pop-Break: How did The Bad News form?

The Bad News: The Bad News was formed by Jimmy Forest and Jimmy Franklin in a basement in Jersey, shortly after reuniting at a Steel Panther show.

PB: Why did you decide to do your very first show at The Saint?

TBN: Because a crowd of 60+ looks great in that room.

PB: What are some of your biggest musical influences?

Jimmy Forest: Boobs

Jimmy Franklin: Twisted Sister

Travis Smith: Pantera

Jeff Strahle: Rush

PB: Do you have any other shows or tours lined up?

TBN: Yup, the week after the first show we’re playing The Legendary Dobbs in Philly and Brighton Bar in Long Branch on May 25 with As Summer Ends.

PB: Do you have plans to hit the studio anytime soon or release any material?

TBN: We are definitely going to release a few more demo tunes. You can count on that. As far as an album goes, it’s in the works 😉

PB: If you had the chance to headline one show with one band, where would it be (venue and city) and with which band?

TBN: Steel Panther at Wembley Stadium.
