Longtime friends of Pop-Break, Cicada Radio, who anchored one of our first Shipwrecked at the Shore Music Showcases this winter, will be releasing their debut full length record No Fate But What We Make (which we’re hoping is a clever nod to Terminator 2: Judgement Day), this Saturday at the newly re-opened Court Tavern in New Brunswick, N.J. The album will be released by North Jersey indie label, Killing Horse Records, which is the same label that released Cicada’s debut four-song EP.

The following is the official release about the show.

Saturday (12/01/12), Killing Horse Records (The Everymen, Secret Country, ¡No Pasaran!) will release Cicada Radio’s debut record, No Fate But What We Make.

Cicada Radio have previously released a four-song digital EP entitled Imposter on Killing Horse Records back in June of 2011. No Fate will be the band’s first physical release as well as their first full length release. No Fate will be issued on digital and CD formats. The release show will be going down Saturday, 12/01/12, at New Brunswick’s recently re-opened Court Tavern with Let Me Run, A Balance Between, Rose Riot, and Meet Pause.

Ahead of the new record, Cicada Radio teamed up with director Rich Elliot to make a great video for their lead single “Oceans.”

No Fate But What We Make is harder rocking than the band’s previous effort. You’ll still find crunching guitars and singer Pat Keefe’s signature shrill. Drummer Mike Kundrath raises the bar with his driving beats and powerful fills. The ability of No Fate to conjure up a sense of uncertainty about the future, while still keeping a wry smile to itself, is remarkable. The band’s sense of humor is never too far out of reach, which is present in both the “Oceans” video and their live shows. With influences firmly rooted in 90’s post-punk (Sunny Day Real Estate, Braid, Knapsack), Cicada Radio continue to churn out their hard-working earnest brand of rock.

Stay tuned for upcoming Cicada Radio news including more shows in support of the new record, like January 12th extravaganza at Maxwell’s for the Killing Horse 3-Year Anniversary Show. You can also follow the band and label on Facebook here and here.
