The fourth season of Cougar Town opens up in the kitchen clinking wine glasses between friends. Jules Cobb (Courteney Cox) and Grayson Ellis (Josh Hopkins) are newly weds trying to get a feel for marriage life and each other. Jules’ best friend Ellie Torres (Christa Miller) teases the couple about certain behaviors becoming precedent and Grayson is deemed the “coffee bitch” as well as her wine servant.

Meanwhile, Bobby Cobb (Brian Van Holt) feels it is his duty to give Travis Cobb (Dan Byrd) some fatherly advice after turning 21. He tells him it is a good idea to run from your problems and does not pick up on his son’s sarcastic response.

Jules becomes bipolar sometimes when things start to bother her so she visits a therapist to talk about her “blues”. Her therapist tells her to try and be “fake happy” until she convinces herself she is truly happy. After her session, Jules barges into the bar, owned by Grayson, and the pair head out to the beach for a fun filled day. After having an epic breakdown over a splattered ice cream cone, Grayson learns about the severity of Jules’ “blues”.

The pair end up working through their problems in the end and their love is stronger for it. The episode ends with the group of friends drinking wine and having a dance party celebration in the kitchen where it began.

Having never seen an episode of Cougar Town prior to the season four premier, I can’t say I was too impressed. It was a simple story line to pick up on and no prior knowledge was needed to follow along with the different characters. I am a fan of the cast especially with Courteney Cox being the lead role however; I can’t help but compare this to her previous role in Friends. Cougar Town feels like the same concept of a tight knit group of friends but for an older demographic and I personally thought it was not as funny as it could have been.

I think the idea of the show has potential and it was entertaining, but I do not think I would commit to the show weekly.
