Reformed Whores may not be a household name in the musical comedy genre just yet, but they will be joining the likes of Tenacious D, Flight of the Conchords, and even the Smothers Brothers pretty soon. The New York based duo of Marie Cecile Anderson and Katy Frame just started to croon their funny country tunes a little over a year ago, but they are already taking a stand for the femmes every where, while engaging a few laughs in the process.

The duo’s October debut Ladies Don’t Spit is definitely not for the faint of heart, or for the folks interested in sophisticated country music. The tracks aren’t completely distasteful, but it’s definitely doesn’t conform to the topics typically sung by today’s biggest country artists. Songs like “Girls Don’t Poop,” “Birth Control,” and “Drunk Dial,” clearly center around taboo topics, but by poking fun at them, they subtly touch upon some pretty positive messages. You can tell while listening that it’s really not about being offensive with these ladies as it is an opportunity to give a clear understanding of what it’s like to be a modern woman.

Whether we’d like to admit it or not, misogyny is still a problem in this country and having two ladies talk about women’s most private thoughts is nothing more than just progress. Reformed Whore’s Ladies Don’t Spit gives women the opportunity to laugh at themselves and men to be a little more sympathetic to the ladies in their life. If that alone can influence some sort of change in the mindset of this country, then we’d be moving towards some sort of progress.
