Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. Ok well, first things first: I will be seeing this movie, I just don’t know if its theater or rental. The big draw here is the two main actors. Jason Bateman is (to me) an underrated king of deadpan comedy, and I’ve felt this way ever since Arrested Development. Then there’s Melissa McCarthy who had one of the funniest scenes in This is 40 and stole tons of movie time in Bridesmaids. The two together should be a time and a half but I’m worried that the best stuff has been revealed in the trailers. However this movie comes from the dudes behind Horrible Bosses which I haven’t seen but mostly heard positive about. I’m curious about this one quite a bit so I’ll make my viewing decision when I hear word on the street. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Identity Thief looks a solid rental. My worries are that we’ve seen all the funniest parts of the film in the trailer. Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy are both hilarious and can do great things for a film…but I thought the same thing about Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis in Due Date and due to poor writing and direction, that film, despite the star power, was awful. That is while I’ll reserve Identity Thief for DVD and save The Heat (starring McCarthy) for theaters. –BB
