Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. The three things keeping me interested in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone are Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, and Steve Buscemi. Other than that, I would probably give this one a pass. However, the combination of those three actors (and let’s be honest, looking at Olivia Wilde never hurt anybody) are what makes me want to see this movie about a run down pair of magicians (Buscemi and Carell) and their newest competitor out on the streets (Carrey) doing Criss Angel-style magic. Buscemi seems like he doesn’t have that big of a part from the look of the trailers, as Carell plays the titular character, but it’s been a long time since we’ve seen him in a comedy, and I’m curious to see how he plays out. As for everything else, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone looks to be rental territory for sure. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent…maybe. There’s really nothing in the trailer for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone that inspires a slight chuckle or even remote interest. It’s all very broad and bland jokes that revolve more around Steve Carrell looking absurd than anything else. The story looks complete paint-by-numbers: fading, obnoxiously brash superstar (Carrell) must figure out a way to remain relevant against hot up-and-comer (Carrey), hot woman (Wilde) comes in to change his life, they for some inexplicable reason fall in love, overly dramatic turn of events leads her to leave him, he wins her back with a great comeback. Blah. However, I’m going to keep the door open for a rent here. Why? Because like my colleague mentioned — Steve Carrell, Jim Carrey and Steve Buscemi are all in this and there could be some magic (no pun intended) here. So I’ll wait for the reviews and word of mouth to come in before making my final decision. –BB
