We have arrived at the musical portion of our marathon. Since the release of this film, there have been several other horror themed musicals made but none could ever compare to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Janet (Susan Sarandon) and Brad (Barry Bostwick), a newly engaged couple, are stranded when their car breaks down in the middle of a rain storm. Desperate for help, they run to the nearest house-the home of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). Here they experience song and dance along with murder, deception and sex. Little do they know, things are about to get weirder.

Tim Curry is far and away the best part of the whole movie. He is the best at playing villainous creatures such as the Devil in Legend and Pennywise in Stephen King’s IT. As Frank-N-Furter, Curry is a transvestite alien who builds a man named Rocky to be his lover but Rocky wants Janet, who is engaged to Brad.

The next best in the film are Riff Raff (Richard O’Brian) and Magenta (Patricia Quinn) who are Dr. Frank-N-Furters maid and handyman. They have themselves mixed up in everything that is going on but are bigger players in the game than they let on.

Look out for Meatloaf as he makes an appearance for one song as Eddie but it is short lived as Frank-N-Furter despises him and he ends up dead.

Rocky Horror has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I watched it every year when it came on TV until I got a VCR of my own and picked up a copy. As technology advanced, I upgraded from VHS to DVD so that I can play along with the special features. I even went to the showings every year in college just so I could interact with the crowd.

The best way to watch Rocky Horror is with the prompter feature on. This will tell you when to do all of the fun things you would do in the theatrical showing with a theater full of fans such as throwing toast or yelling “SLUT” when Janet comes on the screen. Everything is more fun when it’s interactive. If you have the chance, bypass the DVD and go straight to a theater that is showing it. It’s something every horror fan should experience. But let me give you a little advice here, either don’t tell them it’s your first time or make sure you were some really cute underwear because everyone is going to see them.
