6. Whiplash

This one is getting A LOT of fanfare. It’s one of those movie posters that plasters all the ridiculous reviews right in the background. Everybody loves J.K. Simmons, and Miles Teller is an actor who people have been excited about for a while. Their performances are getting insane buzz. The first half of the trailer made me skeptical, but as it went along, I can definitely see what all the fuss is about. Funnily enough, it’s an early review that got me salivating for this film. Kyle Smith of the New York Post writes, “Imagine ‘The Karate Kid’ with Mr. Miyagi played by R. Lee Armey.” Now that’s a hell of a quote.
Oscar Alert! Teller and Simmons will no doubt be talked about a lot. It wouldn’t surprise me though if Whiplash was holding the Best Picture Oscar come February. This is one to keep an eye on.
