31 Days of Horror 2014: Child’s Play

Serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) gets trapped by the police in a Good Guy Doll warehouse. Shot and desperate not to die or go to prison, Ray uses voodoo to transfer his soul into one of the dolls.

Little Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) desperately wants a Good Guy Doll but they are horribly expensive. Determined to make that happen for him, his mother Karen (Catherine Hicks) buys a doll off a sketchy man in an alley.

It isn’t long before people begin to die and it appears that Andy is behind it all but blaming it on the doll. After all, how could a doll possibly kill someone? Now Charles Lee Ray wants to transfer his soul out of the doll and into Andy before he is stuck in the doll forever.

Childs Play is easily one of the scariest horror films out there. While other slasher films give you giant, strong, immortal men to fear, Child’s Play brings the terror home by making the evil something that every child loves-dolls.

Dolls seem perfectly harmless. The ones that pee themselves are a little strange but for the most part they just look scary. Chucky, on the other hand, looks sweet. Had we not already known that Charles Lee Ray had inhabited the doll, there would be no reason to suspect anything strange about him. It isn’t until he starts saying things that aren’t scripted for the doll to say that you accept that the doll really is possessed and up to no good.

I would like to personally thank everyone involved with that movie for making sure that I never got that Kid Sister doll that I wanted so badly. They made that Chucky doll resemble the My Buddy doll to the point that there was no way that either would ever be allowed in my house. The only way I will keep them in my house is if they are absolutely ridiculous looking, like my Mr. T Cabbage Patch Kid.

Child’s Play is anything but what the title suggests. You may want to consider hiding your kid’s toys before putting this one on.
