TV Recap: American Horror Story: Freak Show, ‘Tupperware Party Massacre’

AHS-Freak-Show

This week on the American Horror Story: Freak Show episode entitled “Tupperware Party Massacre,” Dandy (Finn Wittrock) gets a life changing psychic reading from Maggie (Emma Roberts), Elsa (Jessica Lange) and Stanley (Denis O’Hare) track down the Tattler Twins (Sarah Paulson), Jimmy’s drinking lands him in hot water and Dell (Michael Chiklis) can’t handle the pressure of being a freak.

Dandy heads to the Freak Show to get a psychic reading from Maggie, who tells him that he doesn’t need to worry about his recent transgressions because he will get away with them. Perhaps, if she weren’t a liar or had she known that Dandy had recently murdered a woman and made her into a two headed human puppet with his mother’s body, she might have said something different. On his way out, Dandy runs into Jimmy (Evan Peters) and declares that he plans to destroy Jimmy’s life for taking the twins away from him.

Jimmy has been on a straight drinking binge since his mother’s death. He pushes Maggie away with a beer goggle induced sexual relationship with the fat lady, Ima (Chrissy Metz) and destroys his Tupperware party prostitution job with a drunken stupor. After Jimmy is kicked out for being too drunk, Dandy arrives at the party. From the title of the episode, you pretty much know how that works out.

Stanley and Elsa try to convince the Tattler twins to be surgically separated. After talking it through, Bette decides to sacrifice herself so Dot can have a normal life because love is about sacrifice and she loves her sister. What neither sister knows is that the doctor is no doctor at all and the plan is not to actually separate them, but to euthanize them.

Dandy admits his murderous acts to Regina (Gabourey Sidibe), who told him that she went to the police for help to find her mother. He tells her that he has begun bathing in blood and when she refuses to join him in the bath, he uncharacteristically lets her go. This is partially because he feels a bond with her from childhood but also because he truly believes himself to be a God and immune to the law. When she returns with the police, Dandy shows just how immune he really is.

Dell has a hard time dealing with his homosexuality. Knowing he cannot control it and that Stanley will continue to blackmail him for it, Dell decides there is only one way out.

Together, Bette and Dot decided that the sacrifice they would make would not be in separation but in remaining one. Dot professes her love to Jimmy and she and Bette offer their body to him. Unfortunately, Jimmy loves someone else but Dot will always have the love of her sister.

The Freaks are stunned when Jimmy is arrested for murder. Despite pleas from the Freaks that Jimmy had been with them all day, the police drag Jimmy away to pay for the crimes of Dandy.

I have noticed that Maggie’s readings seem to always be spot on. Either she is getting extremely lucky in her lies or she really is a freak, perhaps without even knowing it. I am curious to know which one it is.

This week was intense to say the least. Dandy’s human puppet was the most disturbing addition to the show since Twisty (John Carroll Lynch) stabbed his first victim on screen. American Horror Story continues to push the envelope and I am loving every single second of it.

Rating 9/10
