4. Alien (1979)
Aside from leaving Black Hawk Down off the list, this is probably the most controversial in terms of where it ranks. I want to be very clear about this: I love Alien. It’s a GREAT film. I really don’t have anything negative to say on it, other than I just like the other three remaining films better. The mood and atmosphere of this movie is beautiful, and its got so many great little touches, even in how the title is formed. Ripley is a perfectly written character, and flawlessly performed by Sigourney Weaver. The supporting cast is also solid all around. It’s scary as hell. The film looks stunning, making it hard to believe this was 1979. It also delivers the worst case of food poisoning ever in a movie. I guess I knock it a bit for being just a little too repetitive. That’s really it though. It’s Alien. What else is there to say? It’s awesome.
