Pre-Trailer Thoughts: I had never heard of this movie before I watched the trailer, but sometimes that isn’t a bad thing. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Oscar Issac and Jessica Chastain in 1981 true crime thriller based in New York? I can get behind this. -LK

Rate the trailer: Four out of five. This movie looks intense, as the trailer successfully builds tension that I’m sure will carry over into the film itself. The cast is primarily unknown, sans Chastain, but sometimes that is a plus. All in all, it is a well cut trailer that sells me primarily on wanting to see how it all unfolds.-LJF

Rate the trailer: Four out of five. The first time I ever watched this trailer was for this post and I literally only heard about this film’s existence a few days ago. So going into this with a completely blank slate, I can say that this trailer succeeds in selling A Most Violent Year as a gritty, intense, dramatic, and yes, violent movie that can definitely be a contender come awards time. Already reviews are very positive and Jessica Chastain recently received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for the Golden Globes. I’m surprised Oscar Issac didn’t get one too because he looks phenomenal. I’m not big on crime dramas, because they’re a dime a dozen, but this looks special. – LK

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. While the film does look intriguing, I don’t think it will add much seeing it on the big screen. Even though the movie is getting a good following already I feel like it won’t be released in many theaters, or even be out for that long. I can definitely wait to check this out on home video.-LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. I likely won’t see this in theaters. Though the trailer looked outstanding, I don’t exactly hear my wallet begging me to open it up. I don’t see movies in theaters that often anymore to begin with and I cannot see me plopping my butt and cash down to see this at my local cineplex. As home entertainment however, I’m all for this. I can totally expect myself to find this movie on HBO or Netflix and picking a day to watch Isacc and Chastain absolutely tear it up. If this movie gets even more award nominations, that will just motivate me more. – LK

A Most Violent Year is in theaters December 31st, 2014
