Release Date: July 1st

Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Matt Smith

Director: Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World)

This is another one that should be higher based on concept alone.  It seems pretty clear this movie is pulling the recently popular “Time Travel Reboot Without Rebooting” approach.  The last two times we’ve seen this have been Star Trek (2009) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), both of which have worked extremely well, which is why I’m salivating to see this.  I’ve been championing this movie ever since it was announced, despite all the naysayers.  Then I saw the trailer.  I’ve tried to force myself to like this trailer, but I can’t.  It’s absolutely terrible.  The music choices in particular are just embarrassing.  It doesn’t feel like a Terminator movie at all.  The old catchphrases were also cringe-worthy.  Ugh.  I’m also not particularly excited about the cast.  Arnold Schwarzenegger back in a Terminator movie is certainly awesome, and the one element I did like in the trailer was Emilia Clarke’s Sarah Connor.  Jason Clarke has never impressed me, Jai Courtney is about as charismatic as an ironing board, and the guy who played Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) in the G.I. Joe movies playing T-1000 doesn’t exactly set my world on fire.  Let’s also not forget the director in all this: Alan Taylor, who helmed Thor: The Dark World, which was a giant pile of crap.  There are so many bad signs for this one, but it’s a Terminator movie, and I’m suckered in once again.  I’m really hoping they simply cut a bad trailer, but if this Terminator movie sucks, this franchise needs to be put to sleep.
