Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Johnny Depp rocks a handlebar mustache. Will this bring back his odd characters finally? -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: So this is how Johnny Depp ends his career? -BB

Rate the trailer: Two out of five. This looks entertaining at best, and boasts a great cast, but really, the trailer didn’t do much for me. It almost is trying to be a Wes Anderson movie but without the charm that you feel a WA movie brings without any effort. Meh. -LJF

Rate the trailer: One out of five. This looks like a high gloss attempt at recreating the Peter Sellers Pink Panther movies. Unfortunately, no one can ever recreate the magic of Peter Sellers. In fact, this movie reminds me more of a weird cross between Johnny English and Austin Powers. In short, it looks anything but good. Plus, Gwyneth makes me want to consciously uncouple with the contents of my stomach. -BB

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. Mortdecai may be an okay rental, but not one I will go out of my way to find. The zany antics don’t really sell me on it, and despite the actors and actresses all playing a part, nothing wins me over from what I’ve seen. It could be a good “caught it on TV” flick or a random rental, but other than that, I’m not super curious. -LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks. Johnny Depp used to make great movies. Then Johnny Depp made entertaining movies. Now, Johnny Depp makes bad movies. Mortdecai is the kind of film that needed to be released closer to the height of his Jack Sparrow fame, when his whacky antics were still fresh. Now, it’s an act that’s tired and worn thin. I yearn for the days when Depp made great movies and maybe he needs to this movie to tank in order to re-evaluate the films he does. But then again, he probably won’t.
