Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Nickelodeon’s hit cartoon gets ANOTHER movie because that’s what people want I guess. -LJF

Pre-trailer thoughts: The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water looks like it’s ignoring the fully established fact that Spongebob and gang, with the exception of Sandy, can’t breathe out of water without a round glass fish tank filled with water over their heads. -AL

Rate the Trailer: One out of five. This trailer has not interested me at all. Sure, the kids will get a kick out of it, and I’m sure some adults are die hard SpongeBob fanatics, but not me. I can’t stand that little yellow aquatic creature whatsoever and I disapprove of his buddies all the same. Also, Antonio Banderas, I have lost respect for you, at least, if I still had some. -LJF

Rate the Trailer: Five out of Five. Somehow the trailer convinced me that maybe I should actually go see this movie. It may not make sense in Spongebob canon, the 3D Spongebob, Patrick, and Squidward are slightly creepy looking, and Spongebob is way past its prime. However, the trailer is funny and some scenes have major parental bonuses that make the film amusing to adults on their own terms, which more than make up for my pervious objections. It is Spongebob after all. There’s no reason to take it seriously. -AL

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks. There’s not one thing about this movie that makes me want to see it, and I consider myself a proud kid at heart. This is solely for the young ones, and that’s fine by me. It’ll probably make bank because every child will be dragging their parents to see it, and we will probably get another sequel in the next 11 years (the span between both movies). At that time I’ll be 42 with my own children, so I guess I’ll be seeing that one! But definitely not this one. -LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. If you have kids, definitely see this in the theater; you might enjoy Sponge Out of Water more than they do. Those in their late-teens and early-20s can see it with their friends in a theater and tell people it’s a nostalgia trip. Everyone else should rent it so they don’t have to explain why they dropped 20 dollars on a children’s movie, even though they don’t have kids. -AL
