Welcome to the first #10from24west column!

Once per month, fittingly on the 24th, we’ll be putting together 10 cool things from our clients that we think Pop-Break’s readers will enjoy. We promise the tunes below will always be most excellent. We also promise we’ll try not to use TOO many exclamation points!

Win A Pair of Tickets to See Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids just kicked off a North American tour in support of their most recent release “Hold My Home”. We’ve partnered with our friends at BandsinTown.com to offer a pair of free tickets each tour date along the way. Enter here  and check out their brand new video for the track “First”!

First Track from 24west Records Released Digitally

We’re embarking on a brand new adventure in 2015 as we’re starting our own 7” vinyl label. Our first release will be the latest single, “Breathe Again”, from The Kickdrums. The vinyl won’t be available until March, but in the meantime we’ve got the track out digitally and you can check it out on Soundcloud!

Syvia Handpicked as Mountain Dew’s Green Label Semi-Finalist

One of our favorite Brooklyn locals were handpicked from over 6,000 entrants as a semifinalist for Mountain Dew’s Green Label “Open Call” contest. If you dig ethereal indie-pop and would dig a female-fronted Interpol, thenthis band is for you! Vote for them here!

The Kickdrums x Duckwrth Rock SPNY Winter Party

Another new adventure for 24west this year is helping to launch a visionary new consciousness-based clothing line called SPNY. The first new clothing releases from SPNY will be coming over the next couple of weeks, but we held a kickoff party last month to celebrate the brand’s re-launch. The Kickdrums and a very special young emcee that goes by the name Duckwrth came out and rocked with us on that very special night. Check out the video from the night below featuring a ‘yet-to-be-released’ track from the Kickdrums x Duckwrth’s collaborative EP UARENOWHERE!

Nicole Atkins Tears It Up On Letterman

Are you as bummed about Dave calling it a career this year as we are? At least we were able to witness Nicole Atkins grace his stage one last time before he goes.

Rubblebucket & Vacationer Hitting The Road Together

Working with both of these bands has been a dream come true. The fact that they’re touring together is like waking up from that awesome dream, falling back asleep and having the dream continue in a slightly different fashion.  Make sure to grab tickets for when the show comes to your town here!

Intimate Performances from Two of Our Amazing Clients

As a music fan, one of the best experiences you can have is getting to see a more intimate performance of one of your favorite songs away from a crowd and a big stage. This month we had in-studio performances of “Please Don’t Tell My Lover” and “Shadowfaux” from Empires, and “Indian Summer” + “Only Ones Left in The World” by Tyler Hilton go live!

APSPDR+ Live on Sway’s Universe

One of the first clients we started working with 18 months ago was an amazingly talented producer from Harlem that goes by the name APSPDR+. We’ve had the pleasure of watching as he started to bubble up through the blogosphere, and it’s a great honor to see him starting to hit a more mainstream audience now. A few weeks ago, he caught the eye of the infamous Sway Calloway, who brought AP onto his radio show, “Sway’s Universe” on XM’s Shade45 station. You can listen to AP describe his ‘dark grey’ sound with Sway here.

RDGLDGRN Frontman Finishes 2014 w/ a Self Portrait

2014 was another big year for the boys in RDGLDGRN. Releasing a series of new tracks and videos, touring with AER, opening for 311 and getting a couple of special nods from the dude who drummed on their debut full length (Dave Grohl). To close out 2014, the band’s frontman, King Green dropped his 3rd solo single “Self Portrait”. Check out the track below and stay tuned for a lot of big things from RDGLDGRN & King Green in 2015!

Never Too Early: How The Music Industry Breeds Its Own

Finally, I recently published an article for Linkedin Pulse on how the music industry is unique in the fact that most of the people that end up working in it know that’s what they want to do from a young age. The article speaks of how that affects the level of business innovation in the music industry and how that characteristic may the thing that ends up pulling the music business from its current tailspin!

Hope you enjoyed the tunes this month. See you February 24th!
