Allison Lips – The Librarians

The Librarians is my Favorite Show of the Month because it’s different. Prior to watching the show, I had never heard of a show where every plot revolves around keeping magic out of the wrong hands. The show makes it clear that the general population and the constantly changing villains shouldn’t have access to magic because no one can be trusted to do the right thing with a power they don’t understand. Besides, normal civilians don’t even know exist in the real world.

All five main characters may appear to be one dimensional on the surface because of their overly narrow specialties, but they are actually complex and brilliantly played by their actors. Even the most one dimensional, Ezekiel Jones, has some depth and works well with his co-librarians. Also, the constant presence of John Larroquette has never hurt a show.

The worst part of the show is the CGI, which is obviously done on a basic cable budget. If CGI wasn’t used so often, it would be easy to ignore. However, it’s worth pretending that you didn’t see how fake the fire was in order to enjoy the plots.

In an age where family shows no longer exist, The Librarians is something the whole family can watch. I can watch it with my mom without having to worry about an awkward sex scene a la Girls.
