Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Will Sean Bean die?????? –LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: This may be the first time in four year history of Trailer Tuesday that we’re reviewing a film twice in this column. Yup, Jupiter Ascending was supposed to get a late Summer 2014 release, but was pushed back to the wasteland that is February films. Check our original column here.

Rate the Trailer: Two out of five. When I first saw previews for Jupiter Ascending, I thought it looked alright. But when it got delayed from June of last year to this very month, I knew something was a bit off. As for why there was hesitation, it had to do with completing special effect segments, which is kind of a knock against the film in a way. How come not everything was done on time? Also, just because it is not slated in the dumping ground of February doesn’t do much. Still, the movie still doesn’t look horrendous, but I’ve been wrong many times in my life. –LJF

Rate the Trailer: Three out of five. I’ve warmed up to this film a lot. Sure, I’m most likely to be disappointed, but they seemed to figured out how to market this film better. The trailers now focus on the epic, grandiose action than the stiff Tatum/Kunis storyline of the original trailers. Also, how funny is it that Eddie Redmayne looks comically bad as the villain here, but has a strong chance to win the Oscar for Best Actor? These new trailers make Jupiter Ascending seem more exciting and it’s definitely changed my mind on whether I’ll see this film or not. –BB

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. Look, I’ve heard people hate on Cloud Atlas but I also know some groups who love that movie. Same for Speed Racer (I personally dug it). This could fall into a very divisive camp, where it could be loathed but find an audience who appreciates it. Or maybe it’ll just suck (early reviews don’t look good). Either way, I wouldn’t turn it away if given the chance to rent it, but I’m not necessarily going to go out of my way to look for it. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Last summer I was okay with the idea of not seeing this movie at all or waiting the year or so for this to hit HBO. Now, I’d like to rent this one. The new trailers have convinced me that this is worth my money, albeit a small amount. There’s a huge chance this movie is totally been there, done that as the plot is something we’ve seen a billion times before. However, the Wachowskis now how to dazzle with bells and whistles, which for me, is good enough for a rental. –BB
