We are less than two months from the sequel to the third highest grossing movie of all time, Avengers: Age of Ultron. With a new trailer dropping this afternoon, let’s examine some of the key moments that gave comic book fans the chills.

Behold the Vision

No big surprise here. Fans expected some footage of Avengers friend/foe Vision in the new trailer. It is, however, kind of a shock that all we got was a short shot of his face. Don’t get me wrong. A short shot is good. According to cast members, Vision’s reveal is a huge moment in the film and it deserves to be seen for the first time on the big screen. Longtime fans should be satisfied with this first glimpse of the robotic Avenger as the stinger on a fantastic trailer.

The Crimson Cowl

This one is a small thing but it shows that Joss Whedon knows his history In the comics, In his premier issue, Ultron assembles a team of super villains, but it isn’t clear that Ultron is the one pulling the strings. Ultron hypnotizes Jarvis to do most of his bidding and he even wears a red cloak to hide his identity further. The alias given to him at the time is the Crimson Cowl. In the trailer, the first time we see Ultron, he is sitting on a throne with a red veil over his face. Like I said, it’s not huge but it’s one of those nods that makes big fans of the comics happy.

Wolver-ripoff

This was the moment that really made me do a double take. A minute and seven seconds into the trailer, someone produces a set of…I don’t know. Claws? They are reminiscent of the claws of a certain diminutive Canadian mutant but that can’t be what they are. He belongs to a different studio. Could they be part of a black panther costume? Could they be the claws responsible for Nick Fury’s ocular misadventures? Or, and most likely, could Ulysses Klaw actually have claws in this movie? Usually his claw is a little more of a sonic gun but it has been a plain old claw in the past. This would be a fun development. Maybe we are even getting a full on Masters of Evil here? That would be a lot of fun.

Would You Have Words?

Is “Is that the best you can do” the best you can do? Thor’s big final line from the trailer harkens back to another great Ultron moment from the comics that fans would love to see in AoU. In the late 90’s Ultron was destroying the Avengers. With most captured, the remaining team stormed back to Ultron and Thor said “Ultron…we would have words with thee.” I know it sounds goofy but if delivered right, it can be the best. Hopefully “Is that the best you can do?” comes right after “We would have words with thee.” Also get a load of that Iron Man suit.

“I Got No Plans”

“There’s no way we’re all coming home.” An earnest line delivered by RDJ near the end of the trailer may be teasing a big shocker later in the film. Ultron is a huge threat. I was surprised everyone (minus Couslon) survived the first Avengers. Joss has made it clear that they will kill Avengers in the sequel. So who isn’t going to make it home. Cap and Iron Man have plans for a Civil War and Thor also has a sequel down the pipes. Are we possibly going to lose the Hulk or Black Widow? Or maybe Hawkeye? Yeah probably Hawkeye? It better be Hawkeye.

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1.
