Pre-Trailer Thought: The previous trailers for Jurassic World have only served to sour my initial excitement for the film. Chris Pratt, while a great fit for action/comedy roles like last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy, came off as too serious in the role of dinosaur handler Owen Grady. The absurdity of him using a motorcycle to lead a pack of raptors to help stop the other rampaging dinosaurs seemed like something straight out of a farce, yet here it is being played completely straight. I’m a huge fan of the first Jurassic Park, but each sequel has been a bigger and bigger misstep. – JTM

Pre-Trailer Thought: The previous trailer for Jurassic World sent shivers up my spine. It reminded me of the sense of wonder I felt the first time I saw the trailer for the original film. Trust me that excitement was not their for the last two films. Plus, there’s Chris Pratt, who has plenty of cache with me as he knows how to bring it – both in terms of comedy and action. -BB

Rate the Trailer: 2 out of 5. Yet again my hopes for this film are diminished. They seem to be going all-in on the idea that the raptors will be the “heroes” this time around, something that still just seems too outlandish to me as we see Chris Pratt “speaking” with them. The trailer also does a good job of giving away a few scenes where some security guards and others are killed or eaten, so say goodbye to any suspense in those scenes as you’ll already know which characters will be food in the next few minutes. Aside from that nothing really sells me on this movie any more than the previous trailers did, so if you’ve been wary on this movie be prepared to be even more wary once you’ve seen this.– JTM

Rate the Trailer: 3.5 out of 5. The new Jurassic World trailer is all about one thing — chaos. The trailer does a fantastic job of emphasizing that chaos will reign supreme in this film. Sure, this has been a theme in previous films, but this reminds me more of the original film. It’s about chaos in a controlled setting. In the previous two sequels, the island was uninhabited, and our heroes had to battle dinosaurs in their “natural” habitat. Here things are more controlled as we’re in the theme park setting John Hammond envisioned 20 years ago. This trailer has really got me hyped. –BB

Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks: No Thanks. Sorry, but I feel like this trailer has finally killed all of my interest in this film. My love of the first Jurassic Park came from the sense of awe when seeing the dinosaurs for the first time and the thrill of watching our characters slowly stalked through the park by the raptors and T-Rex. Now that sense of awe is two decades old, and no matter how big and dangerous they make the dinosaurs in each new movie it still doesn’t match that initial feeling. Gone are the intense scenes of the visitors being hunted and picked off one by one, now every other scene in the trailer has massive explosions and crazy high-tech guns and hundreds of people running from hundreds of dinosaurs. Its not that the first Jurassic Park wasn’t a big adventure movie, but each new one seems to try and outdo the last and World is making the same mistakes as The Lost World and III all over again. – JTM

Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks: Theater. I concur with Justin, we’ll never have that exact feeling we had when we saw the first film. It’s an all-time classic, it still holds up today. However, I think the mistakes of Lost World and III will be remembered and it will serve as examples of what not to do for the fourth film. The sense of chaos and fear has returned to the franchise and the series has tapped into that sense of awe we once had 20 years ago. It’s not as pure, but with the new advances in visual effects, the dinosaurs look amazing. Seriously, sign me up and give me some popcorn, I’m ready to watch this. –BB

Jurassic World storms theaters on June 12, 2015.
