Another recognizable face is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe: it was announced today that Chiwetel Ejiofor, best known for his Oscar nominated turn in 12 Years a Slave, will be playing the villainous Baron Mordo in the forthcoming Doctor Strange, due to be released next year.

According to the Deadline article that broke the news, Baron Mordo will be “an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange’s mythology. While he will be playing an adversary of the titular superhero, Ejiofor is not necessarily playing the primary antagonist.

Ejiofor actually makes the third Oscar nominee to join the movie’s cast. Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) will be playing Stephen Strange, a former neurosurgeon who learns mystic arts and vows to protect Earth against danger. Tilda Swinton, who won an Oscar for her work in Michael Clayton, will play the Ancient One, who trains Dr. Strange. Swinton’s casting marks a notable change from the Marvel comics, as the character was previously written as being an Asian man.

Doctor Strange will be directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister). It hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
