Summer is a fun time for announcements. There isn’t too much going on so the littlest shred of information on a favorite actor, show, or film is SERIOUS news. A good amount has been announced in the last couple of days so here is a roundup of some of the most important and interesting.

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One will be adding Forest Whitaker (Platoon,) to its cast. Since the film is set for release in December 2016, there is no confirmation or even vague hinting at his role. Rogue One is absent of the hope Jedi’s bring, focusing on the group of rebels charged with stealing the Death Star’s plans before Episode IV.

Continuing in the vein of Star Wars Anthologies, Michelle MacLaren is being sought as director for the second movie in the Star Wars Anthology. MacLaren was previously slated to directed Marvel’s Wonder Woman but left due to creative differences.

Sony Pictures has finally green-lit Passengers. Starring Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games, American Hustle) and Chris Pratt (Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy,) the science-fiction romantic comedy film has finally overcome its behind the scenes drama and is slated to begin filming in September. Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) is set to direct.

Showtime has renewed the Victorian Gothic series, Penny Dreadful, for a third season. Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, and Timothy Dalton star in the John Logan created series. The 9 episode season will once again be filmed in Dublin and are set to air sometime in 2016.

The last fun news tidbit of the day is the reunion of That ’70s Show costars, Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson. They will be playing siblings in a new Netflix comedy, The Ranch. The 20 episode series will be released in 2 batches of 10, deviating from Netflix standard.
