Marley Ghizzone: Keith Mars, Veronica Mars

A lot of dads on TV are the worst. They are the bad guy. They are usually the homophobe, racist, sexist characters. TV dads have to deal with their nagging wives and just want to drink a beer, goddamnit. But not Keith Mars. My love for Rob Thomas is intense and pure. His characters are always well written and three dimensional. They are more than the geeky computer girl, blonde cheerleader, token black friend, or bumbling one-liner dad. I have watched Veronica Mars three times through and can say, without a doubt, that Keith Mars is the best TV dad.

The best part about Keith Mars his relationship with his daughter. He looks to protect her, like any parent, but doesn’t hold her back. He empowers her and supports her. Keith is quippy and clever. He has a stockpile of pop culture references for any situation. But he is also a tough and shrewd P.I. Keith Mars is a wonderful TV dad because he is a great character on a fantastic TV show.
