Asbury Surf Interview: Primitive Finks

asmfheader

We’re proud to be one of the sponsors of the second annual Asbury Park Surf Music Festival. The fest will be taking place on Saturday July 11th at the world famous Asbury Lanes in, you guessed it, Asbury Park, New Jersey.

The surf music scene is a haven for some of the most wild and creative individuals. The Primitive Finks embody that spirit of wildness and creativity. The three masked men are supposedly musicians all of us probably know, and to be honest I have no clue who they are. If I did I’d make some subtle joke that’d hint at who they might. But to quote The Rock — it doesn’t matter who they are. The Primitive Finks are just so bizarre and fun that it doesn’t matter if it’s Eddie Van Halen or Don Ho under one of those masks — they’re just damn fun to listen to.

Primitive Finks Are (Members & Instruments They Play): Felton Fink: Guitar, Freddy Fink: Bass,  Fritz Fink: Drums.

We Formed In: 2015 CE

We’re Based Out Of: We’re based out of a garage in South Jersey. True story.

The Story Behind Our Name: The songs we play are primitive and we are all finks after all. The full story behind the band will be released in our first tell-all autobiography/coloring book which hits bookshelves next year.

Our Sound Has Been Likened To: The Call of Cthulhu.

What’s the inspiration behind the masks you wear on stage?

We look suave. Don’t you think?

On your Facebook page you mentioned new music being record – when can we expect to hear these new tunes?

We are expecting an official Primitive Finks release next year, but we will definitely release downloadable music this summer on the internut.

What do you love about being in Primitive Finks?

Being in the Primitive Finks makes me feel like I’m special. It makes me fell that I am somebody. Before the Primitive Finks, I was just a troubled lad, with no hope or motivation in this scary world. Since I joined, we do fun things like to go bowling and drink milkshakes.

There’s an endless sea of surf bands, and bands influenced by the surf sound — what separates you guys from everyone else?

The surf sound is so full and deep that one could drown if their not careful. Most other surf bands consist of wretched looking people. The Primitive Finks rely on our good looks to get by.

You’ll be performing at The Asbury Surf Music Festival this year, which will be your first year doing so. What drew you to this fest that made you want to sign on to perform?

The Asbury Surf Music Festival sounds like a funtastic event, but we are being forced to do it. I am not at liberty to release an further information about our involvement.

What is it about surf music that inspired you to form a band and play this type of music?

The reverberated sound of surf music gets people wet without getting splashed. I like that.

What is the ultimate surf rock anthem of all-time, and why?

‘The Lonely Surfer’ by Jack Nitzshe because it has an orchestral accompaniment.

What is your ultimate go-to surf-inspired/beachy style drink (e.g. Mai-Tai, Zombie, Margarita, a specific beer, etc.)?

Mojito

What are you most excited about for the band for the rest of 2015?

I am excited that Freddy Fink might get his amp fixed.

The Primitive Finks perform at 2pm at The Asbury Park Surf Music Festival this Saturday, July 11th. For tickets, click here.
