After a long wait, Chris Pine was finally confirmed to play Steve Trevor, the male lead and love interest in Patty Jenkins’ highly anticipated Wonder Woman movie. The Star Trek vet will star opposite Gal Gadot in the adaptation of the DC comic.

Interestingly enough, when the rumors first arose that Pine was up for the role in May, a second set of rumors said that the actor was also in talks for an unspecified part in Green Lantern Corps, another entry in the upcoming DC cinematic universe. However, according to The Wrap (who broke the news of Pine’s casting), the Green Lantern rumors were merely a smokescreen, and Pine was only considered for the part in Wonder Woman.

While it’s unclear how this character will fit into the upcoming film, the comic book incarnation of Trevor is an intelligence office that finds his way to Paradise Island, Wonder Woman’s Amazonian home. Eventually, she follows him back to America. Fans will meet Wonder Woman long before they meet Steve, however, as she’ll be introduced in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice next March. Pine, meanwhile, will be seen in the indie thriller Z for Zachariah next month, true story The Finest Hours in January, and Star Trek Beyond next summer.

Wonder Woman flies into theaters June 23, 2017.
