Ranking The First Four Vacation Movies

1) National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983)

Obviously this is the best Vacation movie, and simply one of the greatest comedies ever made. It’s a brilliant screenplay from John Hughes. Clark has a simple goal, and he’s obsessed with achieving that goal, despite a countless number of obstacles. If for some reason you’ve never seen this movie, then please, for the love of god, do so immediately. It’s one of the most quotable movies ever made (“roll em’ up”), and escalates to comedic perfection by the movie’s final fifteen minutes (great John Candy cameo). While the sequels are fine, Vacation is one of those ideas that really can’t be done twice, much like Jurassic Park, or The Hangover. While the writing is fantastic, the movie truly doesn’t work without Chevy Chase, who’s comedic performance is right up there with Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, or Dana Carvey in Wayne’s World. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – they don’t make comedies like this anymore.

  1. ummm NO, moron.

Vegas Vacation is the best movie in the series BY FAR.
Then Christmas Vacation for being an amazing Christmas movie, then the original for being just above okay, and European is dead last because Europe just sucks.

    Stay clueless, asshat ; )
