New Line has recently absorbed Vertigo comics from Warner Brothers. Founded in 1993, the Vertigo comics were originally created by DC to subvert the stringent guidelines by the Comics Code Authority. While Warner Brothers is handling DC adaptations, New Line will now be adapting Vertigo titles. Already on the roster is Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s 1990 Sandman.

It has now been announced, by The Hollywood Reporter, that the critically acclaimed 1999 Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso comic 100 Bullets is in development with New Line. The Dark Knight Rises and Mad Max: Fury Road star, Tom Hardy, is already credited with producing and is reported to have an eye on starring. A script has already been written by Chris Borelli (The Vatican Tapes) and Hardy’s partner, Dean Baker, will produce with Hardy under the Hardy Son & Baker production shingle.

100 Bullets is a gritty crime saga that ran for 10 years between 1999 and 2009 winning Eisner and Harvey Awards. Agent Graves gives people the name of the person who ruined their life, a gun, and one hundred rounds of untraceable ammunition. The comic focuses on the inner desire of whether to act on violent revenge if given the opportunity and means to succeed.

Though the exact plot of the movie is under strict lock and key, it is rumored that the film will stay true to its source material.
