In 2016 Star Trek will be celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the original series was revolutionary. Star Trek has spawned twelve films and five separate television programs making it one of the most successful franchises of all time.

It was announced earlier today that CBS Television Studios will launch a new Star Trek television series in January 2017.

The new program, executive produced by Alex Kurtzman (Scorpion, Limitless, Hawaii Five-O,) will introduce new characters. It will keep in line with the Star Trek tradition of exploring contemporary themes through adventurous journeys to new worlds and civilizations.

It will be the first original program created specifically for CBS’s new cross-platform streaming service, CBS All Access.

The series will debut with a special preview broadcast on the CBS network. The premiere episode and all other subsequent episodes will be available exclusively to U.S. customers through the streaming service.
