Review: American Horror Story: Hotel, ‘Room Service’

The only major plotline on last weeks episode of American Horror Story: Hotel was Alex (Chloe Sevigny) and her transformation into vampire in order to spend forever with her son. This week, we learn that may not have been the best power to put into the hands of a pediatric doctor.

Alex injects her dying patient with her blood in order to save his life. In turn, the patient then goes to school and infects all of the students in his class with his blood. As you can guess, this doesn’t go well for the teachers. Now there are over a dozen vampire pre-teens as a result of Alex’s tampering with nature.

Donovan (Matt Bomer) and Iris (Kathy Bates) go to Ramona Royale (Angela Bassett) for help to get revenge on The Countess. Since The Countess never seems to notice Iris, she is their best bet on getting close enough to do any damage.

Darren Criss makes his American Horror Story debut as a hipster Halloween hater that is a guest in the hotel. He and his girlfriend attack Iris with snooty and absurd demands for organic food and high quality sheets until Iris cannot take it anymore.

I have realized that my favorite character this season is Liz Taylor (Denis O’Hare). I haven’t mentioned him before because he is mostly a background character but he always knows everything that is happening in the hotel. He is the voice of reason in a place that is completely unreasonable. We finally get a much needed background story on his character in this episode and get to understand why he isn’t the tiniest bit shaken by the goings on in the hotel.

I have never been a fan of shows airing Halloween episodes after the holiday. Showing the episode after loses the effect and feeling of Halloween. This was a bloody episode and would have been amazing to watch last week but now that we have been exposed to nothing but Christmas for the past four days, the Halloween effect is just gone. It was basically a great episode with poorly planned timing.

Bad things are in store for the guests of the Hotel Cortez with more odds stacking against them by the week. I, for one, am excited to see what bloody treats will be delivered next week.

American Horror Story:Hotel airs Wednesday nights at 10PM on FX
