American Horror Story: Hotel, ‘Flicker’

Previously on American Horror Story: Hotel, we were told that Mr. March (Evan Peters) was turned in to the police by his wife, who was not named. My guess was that The Countess (Lady Gaga) was his wife and that she turned him in to inherit all of his money and the hotel. That would explain how she came into so much money to begin with, how she has stayed in the hotel for so long and, after last weeks revelation, it’s possible that Mr. March is the father of her baby.

As it turns out, I was correct. The Countess was the previous Mrs. March and, as we already know, was just as psychotic as he was. In fact, she encouraged him to murder, enjoying every bit of it. It looks like her type hasn’t changed much.

This week, John (Wes Bentley) seeks out psychiatric help for the mental breakdown he has been led to believe he is suffering. The hotel guests, along with his now vampiric wife, Alex (Chloe Sevigny) have been successful in making the real seem insane for poor John, who seems to be the personification of the Edgar Allen Poe quote “I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity;” however, John may not be as crazy as he appears, checking himself into the very psychiatric facility as the suspected serial killer he has been chasing.

While carrying on with some renovations, Will Drake’s (Cheyenne Jackson) crew discovers a hidden part of the hotel, a collection of bricked up rooms and starving undead. The revelation of the room seems to be the one thing to terrify The Countess. Perhaps this is because the people inside are the two responsible for the immortal change in The Countess.

The Countess was involved in a love triangle with a famous actor couple, Rudy (Finn Wittrock) and Natasha (Alexandra Daddario), both of whom she was deeply in love with. When Rudy faked his death, The Countess believed he was dead. In an attempt to move on, she married Mr. March, despite the fact that she wasn’t in love with him. When she learns that Rudy was actually alive, she decides to run away with him and Natasha. Mr. March learns of the plan, his jealousy forcing him to wall the couple up for eternity. That is, until Mr. Drake decides to renovate the hotel some 90 years later. You can imagine how hungry two vampires would be after that many years.

So, now we know how The Countess became immortal, we know who is responsible for the death of Mr. March and we are now another step closer to learning the identity of the serial killer John has been after all season. Now we have to wait two more weeks to learn anything further. American Horror Story sure knows how to leave a girl hanging.

American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesday nights at 10PM on FX
