Ho boy, we are coming into the mid season finale with another round of Flash Character Coolness Rankings. Things are going to change and some fan favorite characters are going to reach new lows. Below are the completely subjective coolness rankings from Matthew Kelly our resident Flash expert for Season 2 Week 9. As always, let us know if you agree with our rankings and who you think should be number one in the comments below.

1  CISCO RAMON (PREVIOUSLY 2)

Cisco has been pretty strong coming off of the crossover. He also owns the distinction of having the best line of the episode with “The thirst is real” and speaking of thirst, Cisco is really taking losing Hawkgirl to the jerk in eyeliner very well. I was honestly expecting more holding Kendra’s picture and staring into the distance. The longer we go without any of that, the better his ranking will be.

2  CAITLIN SNOW (PREVIOUSLY 1)

How many times is Caitlin going to fall for the old “We don’t have that on my Earth” gag? Either way, this week Caitlin finally quenched the thirst and made a move on ol’ Jay, which puts a nice bow on their relationship going into the long break. I was surprised that considering how well Velocity 6 worked last week, that it wasn’t mentioned at all. I’m sure we’ll see more of that in the upcoming episodes.

3  IRIS WEST (PREVIOUSLY 4)

I can’t believe I’m saying this but we could use more Iris in The Flash. Her attitude when confronting Snart was great. She also got another random compliment from a side character on her reporting from Cold. Iris finally told Joe about Wally in a way that wasn’t horrible. Maybe when Patty is inevitably tragically murdered or revealed to be Zoom, Iris can step into her role as Barry’s destined love interest without fans losing their collective minds.

4  JAY GARRICK (PREVIOUSLY 5)

Jay didn’t do a ton this week, but he helped move things along. It was Jay that noticed the bear reflection in the Trickster’s eye. Jay helped Harry to turn that bomb into a (sigh) magnet to attract the other bombs away. Jay also finally gave Caitlin a kiss under the missle toe. Not a bad week.

5  WALLY WEST (PREVIOUSLY -)

Oh, hi Wally. Nice to see you on the show. We know next to nothing about the new addition to the cast but according to some interviews, we can expect some drag racing in the young speedster’s future. If he isn’t super powered by the end of the season, it will be a disappointment but they don’t have to rush it either.

6  HARRISON “HARRY” WELLS (PREVIOUSLY 6)

“You’re fattening him up like a Christmas goose” has to be the most forced line I have ever heard on The Flash and Harry’s Batman voice isn’t helping. Overall, Harry’s storyline in this episode was a lot of brooding and even more desperation. He did come up with the save of the week when he very loosely interpreted the laws of magnetism to save everyone in Central City, so that’s something.

7  JOE WEST (PREVIOUSLY 8)

Joe sure knows how to cry. You can’t blame him. He’s been through a lot. Finding out you have a son and then randomly meeting that son all in a week is tough. His influence on this episode was relatively minor but I’m sure the introduction of Wally will give him a lot of opportunities to do some interesting work going forward.

8 BARRY ALLEN (PREVIOUSLY 3)

What is the point of having speed powers if any cop can just shoot the handcuff bazooka at you and you can’t dodge it? That alone should put Barry comfortably in the bottom half of the bracket. Where Barry really lost it this week was his continued effort to hide his identity from Patty. If there were ever a good time for it, this week was it. Flash was alone with Patty and she really needed someone to talk to. Also just letting Captain Cold leave your house probably wasn’t the right move.

9  PATTY SPIVOT (PREVIOUSLY 7)

Patty is pulling double duty on the stupid patrol this week. First she attempts to execute the Weather Wizard in front of everyone. Listen. We get it. He’s a bad guy with a ton of power who killed your dad. Of course you want to kill him but you are never going to be able to get away with it in front of everyone. Put him in the squad car and make it look like an accident. Duh. Second, Patty may not know that Barry is the Flash because of his mask but she saw Jay Garrick Flash close up. Does she really not recognize him at the Christmas party? She seems to be campaigning for the award of worst detective ever.
