Ranking the First Six Star Wars Films

1) Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

It’s hard to put into context your favorite movie ever made, but here it is. If you were to take a national poll of what the greatest film ever made was, this would be in the running along with The Shawshank Redemption and Goodfellas. It simply has everything you would ever want in a perfect movie: amazing characters, incredible storytelling, thrilling action, romance, humor, surprises, philosophy, yadda, yadda, yadda.

The Empire Strikes Back is the ultimate tale of good and evil, with a young hero who has a lot to learn, and an unconventional mentor who’s a three foot muppet.  You could argue that everything on Dagobah contains the best moments in the Saga. You also have the imperial march. The Battle of Hoth. “I know.” The asteroid chase. The Cloud City duel. I could sit here and ramble on for hours, but there aren’t any amount of words that could ever do this film justice. The Empire Strikes Back is the pinnacle of movie making, and what all filmmakers should strive for.

Best Scene: The lightsaber duel between Luke and Vader.  It contains the best Vader lines, and of course the biggest OMFG moment in all of cinema.
