Buffy the Vampire Slayer
By Christos N. Gage and Rebekah Isaacs
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of my all time favorite shows created by one of my all time favorite writer and director, Joss Whedon. I was devastated when I finished the series (thanks, Netflix!) and was close to rewatching it when I found out about the comics. I read every issue that was available and had to wait months until this year’s season was released. I think that 2015’s season 10 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer deserves a spot on the Best of List because it was the only comic I actually kept up with this year.
This season, in true Whedon-esque fashion, reset the whole world and the story. The magical rules have been erased and it’s up to Scooby Gang to created the new laws. I think this comic is so great, and this season in particular, because nothing is precious. The story doesn’t get old because characters can die and change and evolve.
I personally liked waiting for multiple issues to be released before reading them because sometimes individual issues were slow moving or felt like placeholders if read with multiple weeks in between each new installment. However, I am conceding that while it has great storylines and well illustrated panels, it may hit harder and mean more as a comic for fans of the show. It connects me with characters and a world I am not ready to let go of yet.
