The Best Comic Books of 2015

All-New Hawkeye
By Jeff Lemire and Ramon Perez

Hawk

Matt Fraction and David Aja’s run on Hawkeye was legendary. They took a character that is widely mocked for being boring and turned him into the star of the best comic book that Marvel was publishing at the time. They eliminated superhero costumes and grounded the character in reality. They established Hawkeye as a character to watch and excitement for the new series was high.

When Jeff Lemire and Ramon Perez took over the series, it seemed like business as usual. Lemire is a great writer and Perez’s art was beautiful. Readers thought this was going to be a loyal follow up to Fraction and Aja’s run, but as the series progressed, readers were treated to something different. Slowly, the series revealed itself to be a really good Sci-Fi series. Lemire and Perez used the audience’s expectations to truly surprise them. It’s rare that a series changes genre mid-story and does so without ruining the entire thing, but Lemire and Perez really pulled it off.
