5. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

While I’m over the moon excited about the Star Wars episodic series, I’m still not getting a pulse for these spin-offs. It’s high on the list because it holds the name Star Wars, but that’s it. If you want to do Star Wars spin-offs, why do we have to go backwards? Why do I care about Rogue One stealing Death Star plans, something that happened over thirty years ago? The idea of seeing Darth Vader again in a dinky spin-off also irritates me. Is Tarkin going to be in this? Oooo, I bet Leia will be name dropped. Ugh. Can’t we just move forward? Enough prequels! Enough back story! The director (Gareth Edwards) also doesn’t thrill me, unless you like Godzilla movies where Kick-Ass is the star and there’s barely a Godzilla. And can we please change the “A Star Wars Story” crap? Come on! I know I’m doing a lot of kvetching, but believe me, I want to be wrong on this. I’d love nothing more than another great Star Wars movie, but I have my skeptic hat on big time for these spin-offs.
