The alternative rock sound of Futures is tinged with elements that remind you of your favorite emo-punk bands. Elaborate guitar riffs, catchy choruses and vibrant drumming patterns instill a bright feel to the music and invite the listener to tune in, all while digging deep with nostalgic lyrics. See what Futures is all about tonight at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, where you will experience an energy-driven performance from the band.

Who is Futures? (Names of the band members & the instruments you play): Officially, Futures is: Robby Atkinson – Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, Cody McLeish – Backing Vocals/Lead Guitar, Jon Dolan – Backing Vocals/Bass

What year did you guys come together as a band? Futures was formed back in 2015 by Robby and Cody.

Where are you based out of?  Montclair, NJ

What’s the story behind your band name? Everyday we are presented with moments and opportunities, which dictate the road we travel down. Futures derives from the idea that there are multiple outcomes that ultimately direct your life; something that is both terrifying and exciting.

Who has your sound been likened to: Blink-182 / Transit / Anberlin

Have you performed in bands before Futures? If so, what are the names of those bands and did they have any influence on the sound of Futures? Robby comes from a pop-punk background with playing guitar in the band Hiding Desires (band name before ‘I Call Fives’). Cody comes from a hardcore/post-rock background with playing guitar and screaming in the band Taking Shape along with Robby. Robby sung clean vocals and played guitar along with Cody who played guitar and sang backing vocals. Jon comes from a hardcore background as well from playing bass and singing in Handed To The Thousands.

Have you had any recent releases? Our most recent release is our EP titled “The Things We Leave Behind” available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube.

Are there themes explored in your music that you tend to come back to?

In our music, Robby’s lyrics talk about life experiences tied to relationships, whether it be our own or those close to us.

What’s been your proudest accomplishment overall as a band?

We had the opportunity to open for Andrew W.K. for a 300+ crowd.

What’s the best part about being in Futures?

Simply being able to hangout, play music and share what we are passionate about with others.

Futures During your performances, how do you want the audience to be feeling? What are you trying to convey to listeners with you music?

We want our audience to simply feel something. We try to be as energetic as possible, so that they can feed off of that.

When you think about all the bands in the Asbury Park scene right now, what makes Futures stand out?

We bring a nostalgic rock vibe, something that seems hard to come by in the local scene.

If someone has never heard your band before, what song would you recommend they check out in order to fully grasp what Futures is about, and why?

We would recommend the third track on our EP, “Reverie.” The song carries the same energy that we present on stage, and hosts one of the more infectious hooks from the record.

What are your plans for the rest of 2016?

We plan to record and release and acoustic EP as well as a single. We are looking to get out on the road and tour over the summer. You can keep an eye out on our various social media outlets to stay up to date with us and what we have planned ahead.

FUTURES WILL BE JOINED BY BLACK WAIL AND BOUNDERS TONIGHT AT HAPPY MONDAYS AT WONDER BAR IN ASBURY PARK, NJ.
