Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Based upon the short life of country singer-songwriter Hank Williams, I Saw the Light is a film I had no idea about until I put it on the schedule for Trailer Tuesday. And here we are. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts:
This movie was on my radar for a slight blip a few months ago when I was hearing that Tom Hiddleston was very good as Hank Williams, but I’ve mostly forgotten about it since then. The choice to release such a biography in the middle of spring instead of in the heat of awards seasons could be a very telling sign as to it’s quality (The film’s original release date was in November of last year). I really am hoping I’m reading too much into this though. – JTM

Rate the Trailer: 2 out of 5. God, Hiddleston’s southern accent astounds me here. Other than that, this trailer seems to show that this movie is pretty by the book as far as musician biopics go. Man lets fame go to his head, throws away love and family, ends up paying the price. I’m sure this movie will find its audience with Hank Williams fans and those who are curious, and hopefully they’ll appreciate the effort put into it.-LJF

Rate the Trailer: 2 out of 5. Shades of the excellent Walk the Line can’t save the fact that this looks to be more of a piece of Oscar bait than a film. There’s not enough of Hiddleston’s performance in this trailer to really glean how good it might be, but every other aspect of the movie looks to be boilerplate biographical filmmaking. You’ve got all the requisite scenes of family, fights, vices, turmoils and triumphs that just seem to be way too familiar to movie-going audiences now. – JTM

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks. I’m pretty sure I’m not missing anything here if I skip this film. -LJF

Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? No Thanks. There was just nothing that appealed to me at all in this one. Hiddleston’s performance might be as great as they say, but it really does not seem like it’s enough to truly elevate this film beyond mediocre. – JTM

I Saw The Light is in theaters March 25th, 2016
