RAW After WrestleMania Recap

RAWlogo2

Well, this was a bizarre RAW. It is the RAW after WrestleMania, so of course it is going to be crazy.

We kick off with Vince McMahon sort of feeling bad and remorse for Shane McMahon. Shane comes out, thanks the fans, and we thank him for being so insane last night. Vince, in what I think might have been a moment of compassion, allows Shane to run RAW tonight.

This doesn’t nullify last night’s Hell in the Cell, but it does seem as though this family feud angle has suddenly come to an end.

Our first match is a Tag Team Championship bout with the New Day successfully defending the Tag Team Championships against Shemus and Wade Barrett. Decent match, except the crowd was busy doing the wave and participating in random chants. Barrett eats the pinfall. Post match, The League of Nations essentially kick Barrett from the stable, almost in the literal sense when Sheamus attempts a Brogue Kick… but the lights go out, and come back on to see The Wyatt Family beating up the League!? Well, that was interesting. Face turn… but for whom?

Backstage, Vince shows true colors and leaves the arena, telling Renee Young he doesn’t want to witness the train wreck RAW will be tonight. Well, you DID put the belt on Roman Reigns, didn’t ya?

Summer Rae blathers on until Sasha Banks squashes her in a short match. Rae was terrible, I was convinced someone was going to get injured.

Backstage, Shane McMahon brings out our next addition to the main roster from NXT, Apollo Crews. Crews destroys Tyler Breeze. Destroys. Him. I like Crews, I just hope he does not become a quick victim of being lost in the shuffle. Let’s see some big wins fast, don’t feed jobbers to him.

We go from a high to a major low, as Roman Reigns comes to the ring, and either they didn’t bother playing his theme or the boos from the live crowd were overpowering. Guess WWE production gave up on trying to mute the crowd. Reigns tried countering the fans boos, but wound up making it worse. Roman really can’t cut a promo to save his life or anyone else’s. I mean, if we were all going to die horrible deaths, and it was up to Roman Reigns verbal ability to save us, I’d just go with suicide. Reigns cut the “I’ll take on anyone” cliché promo, and out comes Chris Jericho who gets booed, but then cheered when he berates Reigns. Mental note, if I need a quick face turn, hate on Reigns. He is interrupted by AJ Styles who is interrupted by Kevin Owens who cuts an AWESOME promo and is then interrupted by Sami Zayn. The four would-be contenders brawl while Reigns stands off to the side… and laughs? Seriously? This is a joke to him? This better be heel-turn or at least acknowledgement of complete failure. Reigns hits a spear on Jericho to close the segment.

The live crowd collectively stood up, crouched, dropped pants, and dumped all over Roman Reigns. Vince likely left the building, legit, because he can’t put up with this anymore.

Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler go to a double-count out, and Ziggler eats the End of Days on the floor post match. Not a bad match, but a double count-out on his first match on RAW? Not really the best way to start his singles career.

Our main event tonight, will be Owens vs. Styles vs. Zayn vs. Jericho to determine the number one contender to face Reigns for the WWE Title.

Zack Ryder comes out, and we get a LOUD “You Deserve It” chant from the live crowd. I think Ryder was going to cry. He shows a photo of him as a kid with Razor Ramon, and a photo from last night, were Ramon posed with him. That is awesome. He thanks the fans and his dad at ringside, who is JACKED. Holy crap, someone backstage must be thinking “we need Ryder Sr. in the ring… NOW.” Ryder cuts a great heartfelt promo, and the live crowd Woo Woo Woo’s right along. That is, until the Miz interrupts and berates Ryder. We get our Intercontinental Championship match.

We get a good match, until inevitably, Miz antagonizes Daddy Ryder, who shoves Miz clear across the arena floor. Then… MARYSE shows up and slaps him. Maryse, the wife of the Miz. Tragedy strikes, as the distraction allows Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale.

Yes. Zack Ryder LOST the championship. 24 hours. Sonofa… Mother… I just can’t. GODDAMN IT.

I don’t even want to keep watching.

Next up, Lita and the current women’s roster are in the ring for the presentation of the WWE Women’s Championship. Charlotte comes out, and puts over the women and the fact they are superstars. Crowd chants “this is wrestling” which is well deserved. Inevitably, Charlotte reverts to heel mode, insulting the rest of the women. They leave in disgust, however Natalya stays behind to challenge Charlotte, and brings up family legacies. Natalya locks Charlotte in the Sharpshooter, but Ric helps Charlotte escape.

About DAMN TIME Natalya is taken seriously.

Up next, we get a promo for… Primo and Epico? Well, this ought to be intriguing.

I apologize if I don’t say much about this next match, but I don’t care. Usos and Dudleys have a Tables match. Which should have been the stipulation for last night. In any case, the Usos attempt the same spot from last night, but miss, planting themselves through the tables. The timekeeper got jumpy and rang the bell. Bubba gets pissed and plants an Uso through a table, and now the match is over, as Bubba yells for the bell to be rung again.

Backstage: Sami Zayn talks to Renee Young about the chance to be #1 contender. Kevin Owens attacks him backstage and powerbombs him through a table. Later, it is announced he is out of the match. You know what, the kid needs a break.

The Dudleys are still ringside, prolonging their departure, complaining they have no good talent left… until Enzo Amore and Big Cass arrive!

Is it just me, or is tonight NXT? Enzo and Cass cut a fantastic opening salvo promo on the Dudleys. This will be a great way to get them over fast. The crowd was on fire. They were fantastic tonight. I look forward to this feud.

We get the final match of the night, AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens vs… CESARO!! The crowd erupts, and I jump out of my seat. What follows is a Cesaro-filled uppercut and swing-fest. Owens powerbombing everyone. Styles flying and splashing. Jericho cracking everyone with codebreakers. The end comes when Styles plants Jericho with the Styles Clash and gets the pinfall victory.

Yes, we are going to see AJ Styles vs. Roman Reigns. This effectively turns Reigns heel, whether WWE wants to or not.

This has to go down as one of the strangest RAW programs ever. Moments of face palm, moments of jaw-dropping, and moments that left our heads scratching. Weigh in and leave some comments!
