Doctor Strange Trailer Premieres on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Benedict Cumberbatch’s disembodied head presented the official trailer for the long awaited Dr. Strange film on Kimmel tonight. And it was all kinds of strange in the best and most beautiful way.

The film appears to stay true to the Doctor’s origins, opening with various shots of Cumberbatch in a mangled car wreck, along emphasis on his shaking damaged and his prestige as a surgeon, and eventually following a gruff, recovering Stephen Strange (with a striking American accent) to an undisclosed Eastern, Asian-influenced region. In addition to the opening car wreck scenes there is male voice-over from an unknown character, which eventually leads into a monologue by Tilda Swinton, who is finally revealed as The Ancient One —  the Doctor’s mentor.

Aside from Cumberbatch and Swinton, the only other cast members briefly featured were Rachel McAdams (in medical scrubs) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (as Baron Mordo in a sort of Samurai-like armor). However, the true star of the trailer isn’t the Oscar nominated Cumberbatch, but the set design. Featuring gorgeous monumental temples and city skylines twisting and shifting in impossible mindbending ways, rivaling that of Inception. Dr. Strange may prove to be Marvel’s most visually striking film yet to come.

Dr. Strange hits theaters November 4, 2016
