Hamilton Documentary to air on PBS This Fall

Fans and would-be-fans of Hamilton rejoice!

The dearth of tickets, or money preventing you from seeing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton on Broadway?

Tired of your friends playing the soundtrack and singing all the words while you sit, lost and confused?

Your prayers have been answered: PBS announced Friday that it will be airing the hit performance on television on October 17, 2016 as part of their “Great Performances” series.

The series has previously featured Broadway shows such as: Into the Woods, Billy Elliot, and Cats.

Although it was announced in January that Hamilton would be part of the program, the date of its airing finally allows fans and would-be-fans to stop holding their breath for this amazing experience.

Alongside the airing of the musical, a segment named “Hamilton’s America” will document the musical’s mastermind Miranda and his team on their creative detours in writing and producing the musical. In a statement on the PBS website Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming for the channel commented:

“PBS is thrilled to give viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at this sensational—and sold out—Broadway musical. With this level of access to Lin-Manuel Miranda and his team, PBS continues to live up to our mission of giving viewers a backstage pass and a front row seat to the arts.”

Tony award-winning musical follows the intrepid life of scrappy Founding Father Alexander Hamilton — the famous New York delegate to the Constitution and contributor to “The Federalist Papers”. The musical has received praise for its rap-style songs, minority cast, and the debate it has sparked across the nation about what America was, is, and should be today.

Additionally, Miranda announced that he will leave the day-to-day performances of “Hamilton” on July 9 (though promising to return occasionally) and his understudy, Javier Muñoz will carry the torch.
