Why I Love It (Tommy Tracy): From Dusk Till Dawn is not one of the best films of 1996; it is one of the best films of all time. Combining Quentin Tarantino’s quirkiness with Robert Rodriguez’s epic grindhouse aesthetics, Dusk is a horror gem like we’ve never seen before and may never see again.

Dusk poster

Yes, Dusk is a horror film, one fueled by guts and gore, but it is much more than that. It also sheds light on the importance of family and what people will go through to save their family from certain peril. George Clooney’s Seth Gecko loves his psychopathic brother, Richard (Tarantino), even through all of his fault. Harvey Keitel is a father destined to keep his daughter and adopted son safe, no matter the cost. Yes, dear readers, love can have a place in our much appreciated horror flicks.

And balls to the wall brawl between undead vampires and their lively dinner is a must see for any one who loves ridiculous frights and beautiful special effects. Special effects legend Tom Savini has a gun attached to his penis and we get a stripper Salma Hayek. What’s not to love? If you haven’t seen this film before (I’m appalled), do yourself a favor and watch what I consider to be the best film of 1996!

Best Line:
Seth: So, what’s the deal with you two, you a couple of f*gs?
Jacob: He’s my son.
Seth: Yeah, how’s that happen? You don’t look Japanese.
Jacob: Neither does he. He looks Chinese.
Seth: Oh, ooh, well excuse me all to hell.

Best Scene: The transformation scene. I mean, duh!
