Winter is coming much later than anticipated…

HBO has officially confirmed that the hugely successful fantasy hit will not return to our small screen until summer of 2017.

Game-of-Thrones-Free-Logo-DownloadTVLine has reported that the extremely long delay, which will likely take this huge Emmy contender out of the 2017 race, is due to production/weather problems.

HBO’s president of production, Casey Bloys, has stated that, “Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the story lines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing. Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”

To sum up, winter really wasn’t as close as they though it was.

The show usually airs in April, which allows it to be a contender in the Emmy race as the ballots don’t close until May 31st, but seeing as summer officially start June 21st, it is unlikely we will see the Iron Throne take home any awards during the 2017 race.

Thrones will start production on the new season later this summer, and is currently nominated for 23 nominations at this years Emmy’s.
