Pre-Trailer Thoughts: I caught the trailer for Magnificent Seven thanks to a buddy of mine posting it on social media. Before that, I did not know anything about it, but after watching the beautifully edited composited footage of the upcoming film, I have to say, I’m ready to saddle up. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Although I have never seen the original Western that this is based off of I am a big fan of Seven Samurai, which was the inspiration for 1960’s The Magnificent Seven in the first place. The story of seven mercenaries protecting a town from bandits is timeless and has even been adapted into anime and science-fiction movies. The set-up always allows for some pretty great casting choices, and this one is no different. Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and Ethan Hawke lead a diverse cast that already has got me intrigued. – JTM

Rate the Trailer: 5 out of 5. Damn, this looks like a fun time at the cinema. Not only is the cast featured extremely impressive, but it looks like everyone is having a grand old time in the old west. Fuqua clearly knows how to direct Washington and Hawke, Training Day alumni, and Pratt’s inclusion is clearly there for comedic relief purposes, which is 100% fine with me, as I love the guy. I could see this having an awesome soundtrack too, as the trailers make good use of music as background to some fantastic gunslinger action. All in all, this movie is going to be a sure box office hit come September. -LJF

Rate the Trailer: 5 out of 5. I’m always in the mood for a good new Western, and this looks to fit the bill exactly. This genre is somewhat new for director Antoine Fuqua, but it’s story and characters fall right in line with the gritty dramas and thrillers that he’s used to making. He captures the Old West with his own stylized panache that combines the dark look of his previous films with beautiful vistas and eye-catching wide shots of open plains. The action looks to be top-notch as well, with Washington, Pratt, and the others having shootouts and doing stunts that are, simply, awesome looking. –JTM

Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? Theater. The cast alone had me interested enough to check this out somewhere down the line, but the explosive trailer has got me ready to plop down money and see this in the theater. The September release date puts this in the middle of what is usually a dead zone for new movies, so this will come at the perfect time right when I’m itching to see something that looks really good. –JTM

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. The Magnificent Seven is looking too good to pass up for a theater viewing. If possible, I may even try for opening weekend on this one. -LJF
