Secret Blair Witch Movie Has Been Revealed

The current fad of delving into 90’s nostalgia continues. Via Entertainment Weekly, Lionsgate has just announced a sequel to the 1999 cult hit, The Blair Witch Project. The movie is simply titled “Blair Witch.” It seems there was a bit of trickery going on here, as audiences have already seen the trailer for this bad boy. They just didn’t know it.

Last May, a trailer was released for a movie under the guise, “The Woods,” but in reality this was the first glimpse into a third Blair Witch project. The original followed three documentary filmmakers who explored the local legend of the Blair Witch in Maryland. The film is notorious for having a production budget under $100,000, but returning a worldwide gross over $240 Million. This project is often referred to as starting the found footage phenomenon. A sequel was released in 2000, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, which said goodbye to the found footage format, but underwhelmed in comparison to the original.

This third entry follows the brother of main character Heather Donahue, played by James Allen McCune (Shameless), as he searches for his sister who vanished after the events of the first film. It also stars Valorie Curry, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Wes Robinson, and Corbin Reid. The film is being directed by Adam Wingard, whose previous credits include 2013’s You’re Next, and the thriller, The Guest, a cult hit from 2014. The film was publicly shown this past Friday at Comic-Con, but will be released for all on September 16th!

Check out the trailer for The Woods, excuse me, Blair Witch!
