Great Actors. Awful Movies.

bad-actor

Peter Berg directed what many consider to be one of the greatest sports movies ever made (Friday Night Lights).  His latest film, Deepwater Horizon, has been praised up and down Hollywood.  His next film about the Boston Marathon bombings, Patriots Day, packed an emotional, Oscar worthy trailer.  He also directed Battleship, one of the biggest flops in recent memory.

In 2001, Halle Berry won an Academy Award for Monster’s Ball.  She played Storm four times in one of the most successful superhero franchises of all time (X-Men).  Halle Berry also won a Razzie for Catwoman, which many believe to be the worst superhero movie ever made.

When you’re a great actor or director, at some point you’re bound to step in it.  No matter how good an actress Halle Berry is, her performance in Catwoman was doomed.  A bad movie is like a virus.  It consumes everything.  Sometimes you can rise above it.  Ewan McGregor is the one piece everyone seems to like about the Star Wars prequels.  That doesn’t change the fact that he was completely and utterly wasted in those movies.

That’s what we’re here to talk about today.  Inferno, the third entry in The Da Vinci Code series yawns into theaters this weekend.  Not only does it star one of the greatest actors to ever grace the screen, but the director is no slouch either.  Ron Howard has delivered a lot of gems.  Can we please agree this franchise isn’t one of them?  It’s a complete and utter waste of Tom Hanks and Ron Howard’s talent.

In honor of the boredom that is this franchise, our staff got together and recollected other times where transcendent actors and directors played their one game for the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Where did these movies go wrong?  Were careers damaged?  Are we still damaged?

Let the walk of shame begin…

  1. Interesting list! For Weltz though, I’d have picked The Green Hornet. Bloodnofsky was the best part of that shitshow.
