Review: American Horror Story: Roanoke ‘Chapter 8’

The way this season is turning out, it is rather pure genius or just plain ghastly.

After pretty much killing off everyone we have ever met on this show so far, side note no emotional connection has been made with anyone at all so I guess good riddance, the show has basically become one giant massacre of Ryan Murphy’s fave actors. So the question that is relayed to us as the audience is, what is this season really about.

After last weeks episode, where we finally got to see the real butcher and the real Polk family, everything about this episode is starting to feel less real and more fake.

We see Audrey (Sarah Paulson) and Lee (Adina Porter- who seriously is one hell of an actress please give this woman and Emmy for this role) kick some serious hillbilly butt only to go back to the house where ghosts are more plentiful then trees, and Shelby (Lily Rabe) and Dominic (Cuba Gooding Jr.) essentially become a punching bag for some grudge like ghosts and the infamous Piggy Man.

So far none of these characters are likable and we haven’t really had a chance to get to know them before they are butchered off by the Butcher. While my theory last week was only a theory, it is starting to ring more true with each episode.

This season is just one straight up clever parody of everything they have done as a series in AHS history and in the horror world in general.

Not only is everyone dying left and right, making season one Murder House look like a walk in the park, but the over dramatic and stereotypical qualities of the actors on the show make it more campy and hilarious when they are butchered.

For instance, we have Audrey wishing her fans goodbye on camera by stating that she had so many amazing performances left for them, and Dominic crying over the fact he won’t be able to make it to Thailand. If this isn’t a parody, then I have no idea what is.

If this is the case, once again I call a kudos to action immediately. This is a perfect move on Murphy’s side by making everyone wonder and wait with what the theme was going to be this season for it to just be one big parody. Some may see that as a slap in the face, I see it is fresh and original.

However if I’m wrong, then what a load of bull.

If this isn’t a parody, then the writing was just plain dumb this episode along with shawty camera work that did nothing to serve purpose to the plot other than play on the popularity of found footage. But like I said, I highly doubt this to be the case and I truly do feel this is setting us up for something grand.

So please Ryan, for the love of God let me be right on this one…because if not, then AHS is truly done for.
