Pre-Trailer Thoughts: As a major fan of Spider-Man, I’ve been waiting forever for him to be hanging alongside the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When that moment finally arrived in Captain America: Civil War, I was beside myself. Spidey stole every scene he was in, thanks majorly in part to the pitch perfect casting of Tom Holland as the wallcrawler. Not only was his performance great, but the character finally got the much needed “superhero universe” dynamic to play of of that was missing in previous Spider-Man films. However, Holland has to prove himself in his first solo outing under the Marvel Studios banner. Will this film finally be able to give us the truest sense of the webhead? -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: As arguably the most popular Marvel Comics character, Spider-Man’s addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has now brought it’s superhero lineup full circle. This will be the second time Hollywood has given the Spider-Man franchise a fresh start after the Amazing Spider-Man series sputtered to a halt just two movies in. This time around Homecoming seeks to show that Spider-Man still has room to grow as a standalone hero in the MCU after his appearance in Captain America: Civil War. – JTM

Rate the Trailer: 3 out of 5. For someone who loves Spidey as much as I do, this trailer did not give me the sense of excitement I wanted. Visually, it looks great. The money shot at the end is beautiful, and Holland hasn’t seemed to miss a beat since his last outing. The infusion of Robert Downey Jr. as mentor provides a much needed change from the Spidey movies that came before, but aside from all of that, there isn’t much here that we haven’t seen already, no thanks in part to five full length movies that already featured Marvel’s poster boy. Keaton’s involvement is super intriguing, but the fact that they are hiding him behind a mask is kind of a let down. I’m not hating on this trailer 100%, but I hope that there is much more under the surface when I finally get to see the finished product. -LJF

Rate the Trailer: 3 out of 5. There are certain choices this trailer made that really didn’t gel with me. The choice of having Iron Man show up, as though they didn’t think Spider-Man could carry this by himself, was odd. The trailer also revealed much more of the movie than I had expected, right down to which of Peter Parker’s friends find out he’s actually Spider-Man. This does reveal the inspired choice of Michael Keaton as The Vulture. Keaton’s huge resurgence over the past few years has led to him once again appearing in superhero films, albeit as a villain this time. – JTM

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. I’ve seen every Spider-Man film opening weekend, and I most certainly will not bide my time waiting to watch his first solo foray in the MCU. The trailer may have left me a little underwhelmed, but I still have a lot of hope. Let’s see if we can finally get this right! -LJF

Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? Theater. Any reservations aside, this is still Spidey’s big solo debut in the MCU. It’s about as must-see as any Marvel movie since the first Avengers. – JTM
