Review: Revolution #4

By: Michael S. Dworkis

The big battle ensues! All your favorites are here! Ring the bell!

This is the issue where it all goes down and I will do my best not to spoil anything. This is the issue where almost everyone comes together, in ways you probably expected. Good guys unite with good guys, bad guys with bad guys. Sort of. Miles “Mayhem” Manheim reveals his not-so-secret alliance, the Dire Wraiths make their big play, Baron Karza and Micronauts are thrown head first into the fray whether they like it or not.

I will say, Snake Eyes being referred to as a “Giant Karza Robot” is pretty spot-on funny. Then, seeing a Transformer show up, and the sudden shock of how small the Micronauts must be compared to Transformers and humans is pretty astonishing. If a Micronaut is nearly human-hand sized, imagine what it must be like compared to Optimus Prime. This issue gives you that incredible perception.

ROM has his moment of redemption. It’s a bit clichéd but it works. As the remnant of the G.I. Joe forces discover the true nature of M.A.S.K. and later reveal their own backup plan, they seem to be the only ones in the position to stop the bad guys once and for all.

At first, I did not like the artwork of the main Revolution series, but it grew on me. Seeing Victorion standing tall, ready for battle looking so gosh-darn intimidating. Jazz, half broken, looking like his Generation One Actionmaster form, looked really good. Even Windblade, who out of all characters I initially did not like, now I appreciate after the cartoonish look from the Till All Are One one-shot. Windblade is a city-speaker. She is a servant of the Primes. She should look regal, in a position of honor, and the artwork captures it beautifully.

All sides come together, each part of the story merging together, as characters join in gradually, we finally get the big splash page we have been waiting for. For myself and I am sure others, it’s been 30 years where a splash page such as this was only to be found in our imagination.
